Releasing a single can’t be difficult, can it?
That’s what I thought. But there’s a lot involved. If besides releasing the song, you also want it to get noticed.
There are other things to consider too. Stuff I had not paid too much attention to beforehand.
For example:
- Is the quality of the recording good enough to be released via Spotify, Apple Music? The recording may sound good through my sound system, but how does it sound through an earpiece or headphones.
- I need to choose from a wide range of companies that can release my music to become available on Spotify, Apple Music, and the like.
- I need to choose a company that will protect my songwriter rights and collects revenue (if any) for me.
- Without publicity, failure is imminent. So I have to dwell on social media, advertising, and whatnot.
- To be visible on the internet as an artist, you have to think about logos, color scheme, font, image, etcetera.
- I cannot avoid having photographs taken. After all, music also needs a face to accompany it.
- Videos are also an important medium. So I also have to pay the attention to that.
- OMG. Do I already have a website?
- Have I paid enough attention to networking?
- .......
When I look at this list, my heart sometimes drops. But still. I am excited and happy with my music. So I want to let the world hear it.
So Let’s go.
As John Lennon used to say when the lads were feeling down or worried.
“Where’re we goin’ fellas?” “To the top, Johnny!”
“And where’s that fellas?” “To the toppermost of the poppermost!”
