Did you know the bass guitar is the fourth most popular musical instrument globally, after the piano, the guitar, and the drums?
The bass may only have four strings compared with the electric guitar's six, but that doesn't make learning to play it easy. It's a different instrument that's played differently from the electric guitar.
Some say the bass guitar is a bit more challenging to learn than other string instruments.
It is also more physical than the guitar and less prone to extreme high-pitched tuning.
Rock music is an exciting genre for many reasons, but one reason that stands out is the bass guitar's impact on the music. The bass guitar is a must-have for many rock lovers in the mix.
It gives the music more depth, emotion and can even help define what kind of rock you're listening to. Metal bassists, for instance, create a powerful and heavy sound.
An example of this is Geezer Butler from Black Sabbath. In rock, the bass can be used to create the song's mood. For example, in the song "Crazy Train" by Ozzy Osbourne, the bass creates a disorientated feeling reminiscent of a tornado. This is an excellent example of how bass can be used to create an effect.
The bass plays a vital role in rock music!
It's the groundwork that everything else stands on, and it's often a very creative part of the music. For example, the bass is the root and backbone of a rock band. If you take away the bass and all the rest of the instruments, you'll still have a song with a sense of rhythm and vibe!
Rock wasn't complete in the '60s and '70s without a good bass line anchoring the song. As a result, the bass guitar is a great instrument for anyone to learn, and it's a fun skill to master!
I consider myself primarily as a guitar player, but I like to fool around on the bass too.
I also play the bass parts on my next single, Alcohol (arriving early January).
